School felt endless, and university left me feeling adrift, like I'd fallen into hell, despite always chasing straight As in every subject. Twice I turned away from a dream life in New Zealand — once for an evening law program, once for a promise to a close friend of a sixteen year relationship. I used to call someone I secretly liked every week. Both ended the same way and truly taught me how very rare time is.
Watching my parents pull over to nap on a family trip, and seeing their hair fully grey for the first time, taught me that time cannot be earned back. Quitting my corporate data job over layers of broken bureaucracy taught me the same lesson on my own. Visiting a school buried in chasing tuition instead of teaching showed me the problem I actually exist to solve.
